Benin
   The religion of the inhabitants of Benin is known as fetish worship. The fundamental idea is of a trinity of gods: Maou, the sun; Lissa, his wife, the chameleon; and their son Gou, the moon. Of these the oldest is Lissa, who was the mother goddess. Below this there is a fetish for each tribe, some of the better known being Agassou, panther; Danh, snake; Khebieso, thunder; Nesshoue, river; Sagbata, smallpox. The individual member of the tribe has, in addition, a personal god, Legba, Legba, and a personal fate or Fa, who has to be consulted on all matters of import. The system is an extension of totemism gone wrong, and its final form is to be seen in Voodoo Worship in the West Indies.
   Khebieso was also known as So and was linked with another god named Bo.
